Supposedly, they are at unity gain when the knob is at maximum. What I’ve found is this.the volume knobs in the OX app are confusing. I play pedal steel guitar and need a very clean tone to get the sound I want. Even my blackface Deluxe, sounds broken up before it would normally be in a live situation. Through the OX, I immediately noticed breakup with the volume around 3. I use my OX with a few higher powered amps (Pro Reverb, Blackface Bassman), that have a ton of clean headroom normally. They both sound great, and I think you’d be hard pressed to be able to pick the tracks recorded with the OX vs mics. I’ve recorded a few songs with both analog and UAD signal chains next to each other. But realistically, I can’t always make that kind of noise at any hour of the day. Now that I have the OX dialed in, I’m just as satisfied with the UAD version of that signal chain.ĭon’t get me wrong.given the choice I like mics on amps. I absolutely loved my recorded electric guitar sound with that setup. My previous setup for electric guitar was an SM57 and a Royer 121 into dual Neve style 1073 preamps made by Aurora Audio. I was a bit nervous about buying into the whole UAD universe, but I am really liking the UaD offerings. I’m using the OX with a 1965 Fender Deluxe, a 1966 Pro Reverb, and a 65 Bassman. I’ve done a few electric guitar tracks, as well as a few pedal steel tracks so far. But I’ve got the hang of it now, and I must say that this box is really great. It took me a little bit to really get the gain staging right while balancing the OX App, UAD Console, and Pro Tools. I bought the OX a few weeks ago, and I am really really impressed.
